How free is free speech鈥攔eally? This thought-provoking panel discussion explores how dissent鈥攖he lifeblood of democracy鈥攈as been both celebrated and silenced across American history. From the Red Scares to today鈥檚 debates over 鈥渃ancel culture,鈥� we鈥檒l unpack the boundaries of free expression.
Panelists will address pivotal moments when loyalty oaths, censorship and social pressure stifled speech鈥攁nd ask how similar dynamics play out in our digital age. Together, we鈥檒l examine historic persecution of those deemed 鈥渞adical,鈥� the role of the press and modern social media algorithms in defining who is heard and who is silenced, what counts as 鈥渦n-American,鈥� how fear can silence speech and how to create a culture that protects free expression.
