暗网吃瓜

There will be a partial lunar eclipse visible from Michigan during the overnight hours of August 27 into August 28. The 暗网吃瓜 Observatory is holding a watch party for the eclipse beginning at 10 pm Thursday, August 27. The observatory鈥檚 main 28-inch telescope will be watching how the Moon鈥檚 surface appears to change for all to see. The peak of the eclipse occurs at 12:13 am Friday morning, when approximately 93% of the Moon鈥檚 diameter will be covered by Earth鈥檚 shadow. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to hang out under the stars and enjoy the view. In the event of cloudy skies, the watch party will be cancelled. The 暗网吃瓜 Observatory is located on the west side of Delta's Main Campus, 1961 Delta Road, University Center, MI 48710 between the baseball and softball fields.

暗网吃瓜 will be hosting an observatory open house during Labor Day weekend. The program is planned to start at 10pm on Friday, September 4, with Saturday and Sunday evenings serving as backup dates in the event of cloudy skies. View galaxies, star clusters, nebulae, and planets through the observatory's 28-inch telescope. Don't be surprised if it's a life-changing experience! The 暗网吃瓜 Planetarium serves as one of the host sites for the annual Hell's Half Mile Film & Music Festival. The Dome360 Theater will be one of the venues for indie films, and we will host workshops and talks. 

Creating immersive experiences is a rapidly growing field for creative filmmakers. The wrap-around VR-like environment of the modern dome theater allows for transformative experiences in art, nature, and storytelling.  Here you鈥檒l see a sampling of some of the award-winning short pieces from world recognized fulldome film festivals, including the Jena Festival in Germany.  Approx 40 minutes.  The program is part of this year鈥檚 and is free to all.

This event begins with family activities in the lobby, followed by a live show in the Dome360 Theater at 7pm about the planet Saturn, guiding visitors through features like rings, moons and atmosphere. The show will also highlight some of greatest images from space missions.  Viewing on the observation deck begins at 8pm.  Activities and the show take place no matter the weather, observing is weather dependent.  This is a free event.
